I had lots of caterpillars in the spring, but I saw my first actual monarch butterfly yesterday. Me and my husband had had pretty rough days, but we found a lizard on our porch and then saw the monarch and it made it just a little better. I didn’t get a great picture because I didn’t want to risk scaring it off. It was enjoying my “baby” joe pye weed nativar for quite a while! I sat on my porch for an hour and just watched it. They are beautiful butterflies, like stained glass. We have an acre and while we aren’t on the eastern shore, we live close enough to their migration path that I think I will be able to provide them with a great place to stop on their journey.

Beautiful, I’m still waiting to see one this year
We had one pupa opening on one of our swamp milkweed and now we counted 6 caterpillars on another one!
