I have these big things that came up in my blue globe thistle patch. It looked so similar to the globe thistle when it was younger, so I left it alone thinking it was new growth. It is not new growth lol

Chat GPT identified it as possible mugwort, but it doesn't really look like the pictures I've seen. It has a dark maroon/purple stem.

    It’s mugwort. *Artemisia vulgaris.* It gets branchy like that at the top before it flowers and goes to seed. Unless you’re in it’s native range I’d suggest removing it because it’s an aggressive invasive species in many parts of the world

    I agree that it could be some type of Artemisia though some Asters look very very similar and apps can’t tell them apart. What I thought was an Artemisia turned out to be a beautiful native Aster. You can always wait until it blooms before removing it
