Eventually getting around to doing my garden at the house and tomorrow work starts on laying some patio and replacing a large amount of the crap clay soil with some better.
After that the plan is to seed a lawn, get that established and then work on everything else (plants, flowers etc).
My biggest problem is I work at sea so after the patio work is done I’ll have about ten days before I’m away for 5 weeks so I have two options and not sure which one to do.
-
As soon as work is done I seed and keep it moist with daily watering and hope it starts to establish. Leave it with an auto sprinkler for the next 5 weeks.
-
Wait and start seeding when I return in September.
I’m leaning towards leaving it but I’m not sure on the damage that can happen in 5 weeks of weeds taking hold etc. so just trying to see if it’s worth getting those initial ten days in or if it would be a bit of a waste of time

Wait. It’s too early right now. When you get back is perfect.
I definitely wouldn’t bother doing it before you go. September/October is when you would normally do autumn renovations any way so do it when you get back. Cut it right down as low as your mower will go scarify it in 4 directions you’ll get a couple of 1 tonne bags of rubbish out of it then overseed and feed it with a general autumn feed and if you’re feeling fancy topdress it as well.
At least buy them a drink first.

Autumn is the best time. Summer is too hot and dry. Spring is the other option.
