Snobbery is not an endearing character trait but if it stops more people from carpeting outdoor areas in plastic then at least there’s a silver lining.

This article is shit tbh. They pose two options a grass lawn or plastic bullshit.
There are so many other options you can choose. Simply a mixed lawn is one if grass on its own doesn’t do too well in your garden. Or how about no lawn!?
Klaev
Didn’t realise you could be a snob for thinking a weedy, patchy lawn is fine, as opposed to spending thousands on chasing an ideal of plastic perfection, but sure, I’ll gladly be a snob.

Here comes a popular opinion masquerading as something controversial for clicks.
Yes, we know real plants are better.
dyltheflash
A true garden snob would look down on a manicured grass lawn as well.
HelloObjective
Automated click bait from the Telegraph. 🤦🏻

Of course by not using AstroTurf they’re passing up on an opportunity to spread microplastic pollution and everlasting landfill when they are bored of it. Also what will the guy who needs to wash and disinfect the stinking bug breeding monstrosity do now?
North-Star2443
Its not snobbery it’s terrible for the environment and looks crap. The Telegraph is also crap.
CastleMeadowJim
I see a lot of AstroTurf gardens near me with thistles growing out of them and it must be a serious pain in the arse to maintain. I tried pulling a weed out of my neighbour’s weed control fabric a couple of weeks ago and that stuff basically becomes a shield for the roots.

Is astroturf like artificial plants, in that you get some that looks genuinely nice, but it just costs significanly more than most people are prepared to pay?
None of it I’ve seen around looks particularly good at all, much of it looks like a greengrocers’ display cabinet gone rogue, but is there high-end decent looking stuff at all?
Prudent-Word2712
It is appallingly bad environmentally, too
RedRocketStream
Do we need ragebait articles in this sub now? Aren’t there enough of those everywhere already? The moment people stop engaging such antics is the moment they stop.
markcorrigans_boiler
One of the most stupid and damaging things that anyone can do. Obviously I’m talking about reading the Telegraph. AstroTurf is shit too.

The Torygraph is written by idiots for idiots., looking to cause conflict where it isn’t needed.
AstroTurf should be blanket banned in the UK – it does nothing and achieves nothing, and creates pockets of dead space in environments. If anyone cares about gardening or nature, or the environment at large, they simply wouldn’t think about getting it let alone actually getting it.
Plenty of alternatives out there than laying a microplastic shedding plastic carpet on the ground and thinking “that looks nice.”
Edit: Eww, gross. Just seen what account posted this.

Pleased to hear it. It is plastic tat that is a blight to nature in every way possible- as well as being vulgar and common.
