The Rockwall County Extension Master Gardener Association will welcome author and horticulturist Chris Wiesinger – widely known as “The Bulb Hunter” – for a special presentation on Sept. 19 at Liberty Hall in the Rockwall County Courthouse.
Wiesinger, founder of The Southern Bulb Company and author of “The Bulb Hunter,” will speak at 10 a.m., sharing expert guidance on growing and caring for perennial heirloom bulbs. The presentation will cover bulb varieties best suited for North Texas, ideal planting times and ongoing maintenance tips.
Two ticket options are available for the event, which includes a catered lunch:
General Admission: $35 per person, first-come, first-served seating.
VIP Admission: $50 per person, includes preferred seating and a mini take-home pack of bulbs. VIP seating is limited.
Tickets can be purchased online at: https://tinyurl.com/dkk4b4v4.
Following the program, guests will enjoy a catered lunch by Tara Royer Steele – owner of Royer’s Pie Haven in Round Top, Texas and author of “Keep Your Fork, There’s Pie!,” featured on NBC’s “Today Show with Hoda and Jenna.” Pies to-go will also be available for purchase.
Wiesinger, a Texas A&M University graduate, began collecting bulbs as a child and transformed his passion into a business in 2004. He has been featured in The New York Times and is recognized for reviving historic Southern bulbs that thrive in warm climates.
In addition to the presentation, heirloom bulbs grown in Texas will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit the Rockwall County Master Gardener “Planting Seeds for the Future” scholarship fund, which supports Rockwall County high school seniors pursuing degrees in horticulture or related fields. The first scholarship was awarded in June to Avery McInvale, who will study natural resource management at Angelo State University.
