I moved into a house that has this concrete pad in the middle at the back of the yard. I plan to use it to put a shed on it (to avoid the cracks in the concrete the shed has to go in the middle- see rough mock up photo) but besides that it doesn’t do much but give a tricky spot for weeds to grow. Is there anything I can do to remove part of it (and would it be worth it, given the short cinder block retaining wall), or can somehow make better use of it?

I don’t have kids, it’s just adults and pets, and don’t see this being a family home as the house is quite small. This may not be my forever home but I would like to make the space as nice as possible while I’m here.

Outdoor entertaining area with furniture, potted plants, maybe a shade sail/structure. Into gardening? Put a potting bench along one side of the shed.

Seems like an excellent location for a shop

Pergola with seating and plants or a green house, because why not? and move the shed someplace people can’t see it.

Mini ramp with a little patio landing on one side. 🤙🏼

I’d put a cover over it (like a pergola) and make it a place to hang out

Pergola or pavilion with a kitchen

Paint a huge circle with an H in the middle! …..🚁

That tiny shed is comedy. I would build an ADU out there, 100%. It is the perfect size and location.

Basketball court. Great way to meet your neighbors!

What’s your budget? It would look sweet to have a couple concrete tree boxes on there

  12. Hammocarorium, some hammocks and tables and plants , also some vines and lots of ferns

I wouldn’t do anything until all those trees in the easement and under wires are removed. Also call 811 for utility locates and know where your gas and sewer are.

Many good ideas here! Make it a nice place to hang out based on your own preferences- flower or garden boxes, fire pit w chairs, picnic table, umbrella or sun-shade, above-ground pool… if you must have a shed, put it in one corner and make the rest of it a hang out.

Seating, a patio umbrella, little portable fire pit and during the summer an inflatable pool with some floating lights and fruity drinks for after work relaxation. If your climate allows, put a few banana trees around the sides to give the whole thing a tropical vibe, or big potted plants at least.

Roll off dumpster for concrete and a skid steer for a weekend. Maybe a jackhammer and a couple friends too.

Build a cover put in an outdoor kitchen and a big table with chairs.

I’d remove it and add some plants in its place. Adding some trees would bring freshness and beauty to this backyard

A gazebo! And plant some bushes, or shrubs in some areas on the back &/or sides.

A few chairs and a table. Put some curtains just as decorative or ones made for outdoors and suspended on rods or cables.

I’d rip it up and plant trees. Fruit trees.

Build a wood fired pizza oven on it!

A larger shed than is pictured. That little shed looks pathetic and won’t be as practical as a larger one. If you go with a larger one you’ll be happy you did.

You have a built in fun pad. Some sort of fun structure with lights. If you can get power out there. Maybe hot tub. Not necessarily a return on investment. But a definite friend maker.

I had something like that and put up a patio. Added some chairs and plants around it.

Pergola, deck, grill, mini fridge… lights.
