Not sure what kind of tree it is. I live in southwest Ohio if that helps. Last year we had our front yard dug up to replace a collapsed sewer pipe. The people who did it ripped a large branch off so they could get their excavator in to dig up part of the yard.
Now there is a lot of loose bark in the tree. I was also digging around the base of it to move some of the stones you can see in the pictures. When I scrapped some of the roots they were bright pink. I don't know if that is normal some kinds of trees or not but all google said were the roots are rotting.

I wish I had a redbud like that. Remove the stones from the root zone and add a nice mulch ring and enjoy your tree!
As said above, by all means keep and enjoy that beautiful redbud tree…. Just wait until you see what it does in spring!
Enjoy it while you have it. That’s as hell of a trunk for a redbud. Also I’m from SE Ohio
Just give it some love, remove those stones near the trunk, pull back some of the sod and add some nice mulch in a ring around the base. She’ll be just fine
Red buds are known for dropping limbs, but that doesn’t mean you have to remove it when that happens.
What reason is there to remove it? Looks like a small tree with tiny consequences if it were to fail. Worth holding on to.
No, remove the stones yourself
