The roots that hold the tree up, and the roots that absorb water and nutrients are waaaay outside of that tiny opening.
The main reason for opening the paving up is to allow the trunk some more room to expand, and more importantly, allow it to remain dry. This will prolong the life of the tree significantly by preventing wet rot at the base of the trunk.
Next they will drop them with that hideous permeable asphalt just about the last nail on the coffin
That tree must feel relieved.
Survive and thrive, better than before.
What do y’all think about the bricks? Should they try to remove them? Or would they fall off in time when the roots expand anyways?
