We have not watered our front lawn for a few years now to kill the grass. We want to plant native plants but not sure what to do to the soil to prepare for fall planting.
Sorry forgot to add that we are in Washington state zone 7b

If the grass is fully dead you don’t have much to do other than planting your natives and maybe throw some mulch down. If the grass has signs of life I’d cover it with a tarp for the rest of summer or use a sod cutter to remove the grass when you go to plant

Are you planting plugs or broadcasting seeds?
