Finally got tired of all the problems with this Ego mower and got a Toro. The Ego is only 4 years old and after constantly dealing with malfunctioning batteries, a malfunctioning drivetrain, and terrible cut quality I had go with something that I could rely on and can fix myself when it breaks.

If anyone wants a free piece of shit electric mower you can DM me to pickup in central Ohio.

I have a stow and go Toro very much like that one and am in my 9th year with it without a single issue. Not even a blip.

  2. Yeah I’m running both still as well. A Busted ego 2135 lots of battery issues and self propel doesn’t work. Also only starts every 10th to 20th time. And then a 20 year old toro

I’m in central Ohio too but wouldn’t pick that up from you if you were my neighbor 😆

I went back to gas too, and also a Toro. Electric mowers are freaking adorable their first year or two, but when problems strike, you’re so many steps beyond miserable

Damn, wish you were in VA. I would take your free piece of shit

  5. Fifth year using a kobalt (48v) and I’m never going back. So quiet and light and zero maintenance. Never had a single problem.

You couldn’t get me to go back to gas idc how many times the electric mower broke, I’ll get another one or fix it

  7. Richcritts

My ego has been going strong for 5 years never had a problem with it

  8. From the results I see with electric mowers is the cut quality is terrible if the grass was even the tiniest bit long.

Ryobi 40V has been good for several years. Moved to a larger yard and got a ZT but the electric is still good for the tight spots. Hasn’t busted yet and I’ve done basically no maintenance

I’m also in Ohio. I’ve had my Greenworks 60v for 5 years and I’ve done nothing but abuse the shit out of it. No issues at all and my grass has always looked good. Only thing I do is sharpen the blade and I replaced the blade entirely last year. I’ll never go back to gas — inhaling fumes, oil, having to get gas all the time, louder, etc. — no thanks!

15 year old gas Toro 21 recycler. Never had an issue outside maintenance. Still doing well.

Why are people always complaining about gas mower maintenance? My experience has been they take almost zero maintenance. I fill up one gas can in the spring.

Once electric mowers are actually adequate I will switch.

Im on my 7th year with a greenworks 80v. Zero issues. Zero maintenance

Today I started up my Honda HRX 217 that has sat in my garage FOR TWO YEARS with gas in it. Started up on the 3rd pull.

Highly irresponsible for me to leave it without emptying the gas, yes. But if I ever buy another mower, it will have a Honda engine in it. This thing is a tank.

I LOVE my eGo lawn tools, but I agree. Not ready to go electric on the mower. I bought a Honda HRX217 and I couldn’t be happier.

Sounds like a problem with that model, zero issues with my greenworks, or their batteries

Dude you got a lemon- absolutely love not filling up a gas container, having a gas smell, and then push to start easiness of electric. Ego works great, you got a lemon or using wrong

I just wrestled an Ego trimmer in my front yard for 30 mins trying to get it to work. Was about to post about how it was a terrible product. Then, I realized it was user error. 🤦🏻‍♂️

5 years with my 40v Ryobi. Motor controller died 4 years in which was replaced by Ryobi for free. 1 easily resolved issue in 5 years. 0 maintenance, btw.

Oh, I also mow 1.5 acres with it cause I’m a masochist.

I’m using Milwaukee 2x18V for the second season on a large lawn. So far so good.

I’ll go electric when my current 12-year-old Honda dies which I expect will be around 2189.

  22. I think the model up from that with XP cut is much better.

Like you I’ve also had issue with my ego batteries. Battery indicator shows 1 bar instantly but work for 45min-1hr. Sometimes it just dies on me. Also I agree the gearbox can be clunky at times when going back and forth quickly around tight areas.

However with the XP twin blades the cut has been superb. While I do agree with others it’s very easy to use the ego, I’ve also been on the fence. Now that some gas mowers can be stored upright I can’t wait to get back to a gas mower!

I’m on one full year with a $299 Ryobi 20” 40v mower and love it. No way in hell I’m ever going back to gas. Maybe GW is the problem here, rather than electric.

  24. I love my ego so much I bought another when my first one got stolen. Have had 1 battery go bad in 4 years but it was covered under warranty. Double high lift blades are so good for bagging to. Thing basically vacuums my yard which is great because my blower got stolen too.

  25. DaveyoSlc

5 yrs on my Ego. Zero maintenance. Used it this morning and was thinking how it’s so much better than gas. Good luck with the new mower.
