We’re entering a new and joyful season at the JDK Ranchette — our daughter, son-in-law, five grandchildren, and their two pups have officially joined us on the ranch! Life just got a whole lot busier… and a whole lot more beautiful. 💚

In this short update, we walk you through what’s growing and what’s coming next:

Our greenhouse is thriving

A 40′ x 5′ raised bed and in-ground bed are already starting to produce

We’re now turning our attention to a 90′ x 70′ circular space — our future medicinal garden

We’re dreaming big: rain catchment systems, drip irrigation, and native plants like juniper, pinyon pine, mesquite, elderberry, and a wide array of medicinal herbs, flowers, and shrubs that can thrive at our 5,600’ elevation in northeast Arizona.

✨We’d love your input! What medicinal plants do you recommend for our region? Have experience with similar gardens? Drop your ideas, tips, or favorites in the comments!

Thanks for following along as we grow food, family, and healing plants — all in a place we love. 🌾💧

hi from the ranch as always I hope you are all having a great day thought I’d do a quick update uh Dan and I have started a new chapter here at JDK Ranchetta our daughter son-in-law five grandchildren and their two dogs have moved in with us here at the ranch and it’s been a very exciting time very busy and very excited they all happen to be out and about at the moment so I thought I’d take this time to do a quick update so I am still loving the greenhouse it’s doing great i have lots of herbs and vegetables and fruits starting to grow a lot of room to grow still i think I’m going to be planting lettuce as soon as I transplant some of these other potted plants we have the raised bed started and then we have an inground bed started right next to it that we just started planting danielle actually started just planting there yesterday so one of the things that we’ve been trying to do is heed the advice of all of the other YouTubers and some of the homesteaders that we’ve met along the way and that is to just take one task get it done get it down and then start your new process so we haven’t added animals yet but we’re really itching i’m really itching to get chickens but my next project is this space over here so this is going to be the medicinal garden i already have juniper growing i’ve already evaluated what the natural indigenous plants are there’s nothing too scary or toxic there were a couple plants that I did remove but here we have about a 90 by 70 foot space i do have irrigation via sprinkler right now i am working on coming up with a rain catchment plan but my hopes is to have a medicinal garden i want to put in some trees i already have juniper thinking of adding pinion maybe mosquite service berry elderberry and then of course all of the other herbs and bushes and shrubs that go along with a medicinal garden i do have border material that I got on the cheap at an auction but I was just thinking if anybody has any ideas or plans that they think I should think about i’m at about five sorry 5,600 feet elevation in northeast Arizona have a great day
