setting up a new growing area make sure you do this first hey guys quick tip when you’ve got a new area that you might want to be gardening in or you’re creating a new garden bed area whether that be a raised bed inground bed whatever it might be throw down some cardboard uh maybe not the season that you plan on getting it planted but the season before is even better i like to do my bed layout kind of a year before I plan on doing anything so like all this stuff was put in almost a year before the willows were set to be growing and planting along with the raspberries here but if you want to do this the same year you can do that as well but you want to throw down some cardboard then on top of that you’re just going to go with a bunch of uh soil and uh wood chips on top of it so I would usually do about 3 4 in of soil and then 2 to 3 in of wood chips on top of that conservatively but if it was me I as you can tell pile up i mean you really can’t tell from the direction and depth but this pile here is actually I mean almost a foot deep but at the bottom of this is all this super rich nutrientdense basically compost at this point that’s turning into soil so that’s why I love putting in wood chips but basically you’re going to get your cardboard here lay it down um with no ink or color is best put something down there to weigh it down and then give it a good watering so it’s going to lay flat and uh suffocate all of the plant growth underneath that and you can throw on your soil and wood chips like that this is going to be a great way to stop the weeds also this is going to be decomposing and breaking down over time unlike weed fabric that’s going to stay there forever in case you got a bunch of cardboard laying around don’t have a lot of money you can use it instead of this weed fabric when setting up new beds it’s really really great all right guys you know the drill if you’re a new viewer make sure you like and subscribe and if you’re returning thank you so much for tuning in once again and we’ll see you in the next
