Starting a garden is exciting—but I made a lot of mistakes I didn’t see coming. I’m sharing the honest lesson I wish someone had told me before I ever planted a seed. Whether you’re starting your first raised bed or struggling with plant care, this one’s for you.
I can’t believe I use to toss these out of my soil…smh
#soil #mybackyardgarden

I am now seasick!
That is not a worm. Those are grubs. I don't know what kind of grub, but it's not a worm.
Agree with Zane — NOT a worm, it’s a grub. The larval stage of some kinda insect! Big sucker, too, yowza. This grub is likely eating some of your organic matter and that may be helpful in the short term. Wonder what this is?
Guys that's neither grub nor worm, it's a millipede, look at the sections and how evenly it coils! Definitely don't throw that one out.
That’s a millipede! Very useful for the garden
That is a Japanese beetle in its grub stage. I feed those to my chickens. Japanese beetles are killing my plum tree and raspberries so traps are up and getting pretty full.
Yellow banded Oak millipede…. not a worm, but they still do "create the soil"
That’s not a worm that’s a Japanese beetle grub and it will eat all your roots.
That's a millipede…. They are however awesome at breaking down mulch and leaves. Why take outthe moss though? They eat that too.
You shouldn't call that a worm.
Not a worm its the larva of bug
I’m so bug-phobic I would have fainted! I love the idea of gardening…and I tried my hand at growing my own veggies, but all the critters made me give it up…especially the nightmarish tomato hook worms…they decimated not only my tomatoes, but the leaves on my potato plants and the leaves on my pepper plants 😢
All dirt has been pooped out of a worm at some point.
Those look prehistoric. 😂
That ain't a worm! 😂❤ millipede maybe
If youre throwing away the insects you found there, you have no business gardening or being human at all really…. What reason would someone THROW AWAY an insect??? Thats entitlement at its finest.
Jewel scarabs (beneficial dung beetle) are amazing for soil as well.
Thank you for sharing
FARMER'S FRIEND! ABSOLUTE NECESSITY IN SOIL.
Never seen someone so wrong before but doing it the right way 🤣
Why pick up leaves?
Just found one in a container I was digging up. I stumped that sucker to def. 😂 thanks for letting me know is that a cocoon their in before they come out?
Girllll, every one of those helicopters will sprout!!! Ask me how I know?!? Let’s just say I have an appt in my calendar on yearly repeat that says, “hey dummy, put shade cloth down NOW before seeds start falling!” I wish I could post a picture for you bc I had thousands of baby trees coming up in my fresh garden. And months later, still do ughh
That’s not a worm
Not a worm
lol – that’s not a worm
❤❤❤❤
I never seem a bug like that , but I'm in zone 5b.
Looks like Japanese beetle larvae to me, nasty bug that hatches and does extreme crop damage. I fight them every year. Earth worms look much different. Look it up people.
