This was an experiment to see how it would turn out, so far I'm thrilled with the results. Bought a native wildflower seed mix from American Meadows this spring, killed off the grass and turned the soil up a bit, spread the seed and put straw on top. Planning on expanding next year and it looks like I need to add some more seeds here also.
For a bonus I almost have my dad on board. He has about an acre of lawn he's sick of mowing and now he's thinking about just keeping the edges mowed but planting the rest in wildflowers.

Nice! Loving the conversion, and it fits well against your home. I will specify that American Meadows is known for having non-natives in their native wildflower mix. Slide 6 has cornflower in it which is 1 example and is even invasive in my neck of the woods. I’d imagine there are more. If your dad plans to do this across an acre, I’d refer him to a county extension office that can refer native bulk seed providers or a place like prairie moon nursery. Good on you for spreading the goodness!
Wildflower mixes are full of non-natives and invasives. They do little to improve the biosphere.
More interested in your house overlooking the valley. What’s the view like from the other side? Looks lovely
