Im growing some empress tree (Paulownia tomentosa) from seed to be used as wood for a future Tansu for my daughter that was born this March. I read about this Japanese Tradition a while back and because we are moving to a farm this september i thought it would be perfect to invest the time and space to create something my little girl will remember me by. So this tree will grow for the coming 16-17 Years, be cut down and processed into timber. And she will get the Tansu when she turns 18.
The other Trees wil be used to harvest firewood from by coppicing, at about 30-45 cm above ground.
