Need mulch? Got six bucks? Haldimand County has a deal for you.
The rural county invites residents to pick up loads of mulch “hot off the chipper” from the Canborough Waste Management Facility, located at 499 James Rd. in Dunnville.
Mulch is commonly used to cover topsoil to improve soil health by adding nutrients, retaining moisture and feeding organisms like earthworms.
The mulch on offer in Haldimand costs $6 for a load of any size, making this a good opportunity to stock up for gardening and landscape projects large and small.
“Don’t forget your shovel for loading,” the county said in a social media post.
Haldimand’s urban areas have curbside leaf and yard waste collection, but residents can also drop off organic material at the Canborough facility all year.
Businesses pay a tipping fee, but residential yard waste, as well as recyclables, can be left free of charge.
“Bringing yard waste to CWMF keeps these materials out of the landfill and helps repurpose them for new uses,” the county said.
The Canborough facility is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
