I feel like standard "gardens" are beautiful from the curb, but to truly enjoy natives you have to get up close to them and do it as often as possible. The details are fascinating and so much of it is wonderfully strange.

Also, my columbine is blooming again in the middle of seed production. Is this normal?

just came to say that the weather has been weird everywhere in north america this year so the plants are confused, which is probably what your columbine is experiencing lol

Beautiful! That duck potato is so cool — one of these days I’ve gotta figure out some kind of bog situation for some of these water loving plants.

Ooh duck potato! I have a pond area that needs a total rehab, it was a concrete bathtub basically from the previous owners. Someday when I have the time … Maybe this fall! Sledgehammer, pond liner, buried pots…

My columbines here in GA went to flower and seed so damn fast this spring, it was like 2-3 weeks. Not normal.

Some asters bloomed for a week middle of June! 2 are now dead/dying, wtf.

    Plants going crazy this year!

  6. I say this all of the time. They look like they are right out of a Dr. Seuss book. My spotted bee balm/horsemint is just getting beginning to bloom. No pink yet. It is my absolute favorite strange flower. Great post, OP.

I always think about Dr. Seuss when I’m enjoying my sunshine mimosa. I’m glad I’m not the only one lol
