Does anyone know what kind of weed this is growing in my yard? I noticed 1 or 2 of them about 3 weeks ago and now they’re everywhere. Also any advice on how to get rid of them?

Looks like something in the mint family 😬

Do you have any planted somewhere on the property? Maybe your neighbors? I’ve heard it’s an absolute terror to get rid of.

Mine never managed to make itacross the sidewalk before it got smothered out by Black Locust, but I’ve heard they can make the jump out of containers and across or under concrete pretty easily.

  2. Looks like a mint. Pick a leaf, rub it between your fingers and give it a sniff. There are several different minty scents, but it will be strong and distinctly minty. Other clues: mints have stems that are square in cross section, and often spread by underground stems/roots. How to get rid of it? Idk, maybe Agent Orange? Or plutonium? It’s pretty hardy and persistent. Learn to enjoy the scent when you mow.

That was my first thought was mint but I’ve never seen it grow like a weed. I’m betting it’s my neighbor. He has a lot of plants in his yard and it started on that fence line

Actually, the shape may be a little too rounded for mints? Are you in the south?

Maybe GA or FL? If so, compare it to Blue Porterweed, a native Floridian wildflower 🤞

You ever noticed tiny blue or purple flowers on stalks like this around you?

I’m not positive, but the first two pictures look like Verbena bonariensis.

It could be a verbena. It will probably flower and be more exciting than grass!
