Maintaining a garden and lawn can be arduous work, but the end results make the work worth it. While visually appealing, if you don’t have a garden decked out with various plants and flowers, you’ll most likely only whiff grass.
Garden designer and TikToker explained that one gardening trend that’s increasing in popularity is chamomile lawns. The addition of chamomile to your grass can help create a wonderfully fragrant aroma in your garden. All you need is a tea bag.
Ish captioned his video: “You really can grow your own fragrant chamomile lawn from tea bags! The tea bags are made from the flowers of the plant, meaning they still have hundreds of seeds in them too!
“Today’s gardening tips for beginner gardeners will show you how to grow a low maintained fragrant camomile lawn in my step by step guide using nothing other than tea bags from the supermarket!”
How to grow a chamomile lawn
Ish explained that all you need to achieve a beautifully fragrant lawn is just a handful of chamomile tea bags. Ish said: “If you’ve never heard of them before, chamomile lawns are becoming quite a big thing. They’re low maintenance, you can mow them, and they smell absolutely fantastic.
“They’re considered frost-hardy too, so they’ll grow back year after year, looking just as amazing.”
You don’t need to go on a wild goose chase to find chamomile seeds, as Ish recommended using the contents of a tea bag. The tea itself is made from the flowers of the chamomile plant which are crushed up.
When it comes to growing the lawn, Ish explained that the method is the same as growing a regular one with normal grass. It’s important to make sure the lawn has access to plenty of sun and has a well-draining soil.
Simply rip open the tea bag and sprinkle the contents over the soil. Make sure the seeds are watered for the first few weeks after planting.
Once the lawn begins to sprout, Ish explained that regular mowing can help the fragrance wafting into the air. Or you can leave the grass to grow taller, as it may produce some lovely chamomile flowers. The flowers can be dried out to make your own chamomile tea.
