In October we moved into a townhome with a patio that was overgrown with invasive weeds. Since then, I’ve worked tirelessly to get it to this point, including getting the garden through two freezes and a snow (subtropical climate). I’m really proud of my work – it’s always been my dream to have my own garden even though I have extremely limited experience. We now have animals returning to the area including bees, mice, lizards, beneficial wasps, snails, etc. Here’s some of the things we did:
-
Pulled weeds
-
Got rid of the mint (don’t panic)
-
Mixed compost into the dirt
-
Added mulch
-Finished the brick border to stop the wood rot that had started on the fence
-
planted some natives/drought tolerant plants plus a native tree that could withstand our clay soil
-
Added border (for aesthetics)
-
power washed the patio
