My staghorn fern has reached puberty! Look at the dark patch on the frond to the left. At some point, this patch will become dark brown, filled with spores. This is why any good staghorn fern mounting instructions should tell you how to orient the plant right side up – the fertile fronds have a top and a bottom side. But if you mount it upside down, I think the plant can still put out new fronds oriented in the right manner. FAQ: I water this plant by moving it into the shower and running it under the water for a minute or so. Then, the board dries off by the next morning when I can put it back up.
