Oh my goodness. 30 min in July can really do a number.

Plants grown indoors have the same sun resistance as someone with very fair skin right after a long winter . you have to give them time to adapt (look up hardening off for plants you plan to take outdoors)

Mine can’t even be moved a couple of inches without panicking and dropping leaves, so I’m unfortunately not surprised.

Yes .. Indoor plants don’t tan well …

It’s a money tree not umbrella

Well this answers my question about the white spots on mine. I moved it out of direct sunlight.
Sorry this happened to yours!
They do burn pretty beautifully though.

I thought this was a money tree.
goldenkiwicompote
Well of course it did. It’s acclimated to indoors you can’t just throw it in direct sunlight. This is a money tree not an umbrella tree.

Ouch

I put my African violets that my mom gave me out in dappled shade under a tree. Came back in looking like that.

Remember everyone, in the northern hemisphere during the summer, the sun is a giant laser.

Money trees don’t like being fried in the sun. That’s not an umbrella plant.
Cut off the dead leaves, don’t do that again, and hope for the best.
Now you know.
Benthic_Titan
Wouldn’t do that again btw

The variegation on that is so pretty!

rereading the post title after seeing comments and realizing it is not variegated!

That’s pretty color. Do you know what it’s called?

This is pachira aquatica or money tree. schafflera is called umbrella plant instead

Oh no! Will it survive at all?

I move almost all of my houseplants outside for the summer, but I spend a few weeks moving them from full shade to full sun in increments. It’s labor intensive, but I avoid most sun damage. It frequently requires some adjustment over the summer as well, and I still get some sun damage

I killed my dearest Aloe Vera this way. RIP Vera Lynn 💔

Nearly killed all my guys by putting them outside in 85F once. Had to prune 4 giant leaves off my monstera. Lesson learned
New variegation unlocked! Rip 😭
