Trying to propagate cape sundew from leaf cuttings but did I cut them too small? Also will the parts of the leaf without the dew and hairs propagate? Do I poke holes in the top? Using sand as substrate and a clear plastic yogurt cup for the cup. Covered it with plastic wrap. Also I will secure the wrap with a rubber band. Please let me know. Thanks!

For cape sundews I’ve only done the water propagation method, shown here [https://www.carnivorousplants.org/grow/propagation/DroseraLeafCuttings](https://www.carnivorousplants.org/grow/propagation/DroseraLeafCuttings)

You can see in the photos where the new plants form – it’s in the middle of the leaf.

I would probably keep that all covered with no ventilation. There is a possibility of fungus so you’ll need to keep an eye out for that.

Re: drainage – no drainage necessary for these guys. You can literally prop them inside a sealed test tube of water.

Check out r/carnivorousplants if you haven’t already
