Someone just gave my son this plant about a month ago and we're trying to read up on it to help keep it alive. Does anyone have any advice on what type of plant it is and why it's turning brown and the other discoloration? We know it got sunburned at one point. The purple is sun stress and itâs perfectly normal. This is a euphorbia, trigona aka African milk plant. Watch out for the sap. The leaves usually fall off in the winter months and regrow in the spring summer. You can cut a top off and make another plant then the original cut will branch off. Very hardy plant! Donât over water.

Give it some relief from the sun. It will turn back green in a few weeks.
