Progression of your new farm is great to watch happen. You are blessed James
Actually, buckwheat cover crop is the best what you can do right now, or later in Summer. It can take only 35-40 days until bloom, then till it. I know people with honey bee business plant buckwheat for one best type of honey. It suppress weed excellent, attract beneficial insects and can be planted 2-3 times during year, but it is frost sensitive.
According to ancient Indian farming techniques Best Green manure is 21 days old grown SESAME IT HOLDS CARBON IN SOIL BETTER they say , I am requesting please try❤❤🎉🎉
Really Happy for you you deserve all the abundance
So can’t wait to see what you do with this space
Gonna need lots of mulch for all those trees !
love it james. more homestead please. i'm very excited for you.
Awesome James!
We need to see every step James!!
I'm always interested in watching how things change over time. Keep them coming. Also maybe in a small spot out of the way you could make a "weed" bed. With all the medicinal/edible "weeds" that people have or should keep around for your health and well-being.
super sweet great move
I think you should mix in while clover, not an annual but it's a way better ground cover than grass
SO Fun! I have faith in YOUR ideas. Dream on… My only suggestion is to go heavy on perennials, so that it eventually needs less of your tending and allows you to branch out with even MORE of your dreams. 🌟
I would really love to see it as you develop it. I am concerned about storm water eroding the terrace edges.
Congratulations James. Your farm looks beautiful. There are a lot of suggestions that should get you on your way. God bless you.
Get your future planning done now as you won't be disturbing any vegetarian.
Get water and electric access on all flat areas even if you don't on using it now.
Put "earth smiles" or "half moon" water harvesting reservoir slong the edges of flat areas. Then put water loving plants and shrubs on the edges of flat areas to not only use up excess water but to hold water from running down and eroding the landscape.
Get some grass seeds on the areas you know will not be planted to hold them soil.
I absolutely agree with you with regard to the optimal utilization of rainwater. You are speaking my language.
Can you give as an arrow showing North on a picture of your property?
It seems that the lake could be an incredibly valuable resource… Aquaculture, place a tank at the top of your property, fill it from the lake… let gravity water everything.
I would have had a climate battery put in while the heavy equipment was there… or at least dug the space for one… give that small greenhouse a major upgrade for 12 month/year food production.
What about clover cover crops, wild flowers… bee hives for honey production… looks like lots of forest, so not sure how well that would work… but for pollinating your own things it might be worth getting into beekeeping.
A windmill to pump water? Not sure if you’re on the grid or not… seems pretty remote…
Congratulations… I have the same dream… glad to see you fulfilling yours!!!
So beautiful! 👏🏻👏🏻💖. What about pawpaw fruit? You’re gonna sell the fruit your land grows? Don’t think you’ll be able to eat all of it. 😂
Yes, I really hope it won't erode. I hope the flat areas absorb enough of the rainwater so that there isn't run-off. The soil has been moved and "disturbed", so it's less compacted and should absorb more.
Those curved terraces look grand and sweeping. It could turn into an absolutely beautiful place.
Congratulations on your homestead!
Congratz on this great, great new project. I like the terraces. It makes it level in one instance, but it also gives you high. I will follow every video and good luck forward to how it develops in the future. Regards, Rudi from Cape Town, South Africa
Introduction of animals?
I lived on a 5-acre hobby farm in Central Florida and we used solar powered DC well pumps with 6 ft tall risers (sprinkler "wobble" heads) in between each row about 8-10 feet apart. The coverage of water was more than adequate. The rows were 220 ft long x 30 ft wide and two 1500W solar panels arrays/pumps (4 panels each) were just enough although we could have gotten bigger well pumps. So long as we had sun, we were able to water for free all day long. It was an extremely productive farm with tons of avocado, mango, jackfruit, lychee, longan, star fruit, pineapples, okra, long yard beans, cukes, tomatoes, eggplant, herbs, squash, potatoes, brassicas, etc etc etc etc… Consider DC powered well pumps run on strictly solar. We grew everything with a thick layer of live mulch from local tree service drop-offs and there was always an abundance of food to share, sell market style, give away and save seed from. I've been a fan of your channel since you started almost. I'm excited to see what else you do with the land. The terracing in leveling out everything is going to be perfect for growing in so many permaculture ways.
I’m so happy for you ! This will be fun to watch you create this blank canvas!
Videos in the interim!
looking so awesome! Keep doing the updates we enjoy them too as part of the team! 🙂
Shalom James 👋🏽 Please be ready for the coming of our Adon and Savior. If you have not already please seek a relationship with the Most High and accept and receive the gift of salvation for your soul, which is belief in the precious sacrifice of Yahshua ha Mashiach Jesus Christ of Nazareth to save us from the wages of sin which is death, second death (eternal separation from our Elohim(God) and Father). Believe in Yahshua ha Mashiach Jesus Christ of Nazareth for as it is written in Acts 4:12 NIV:
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Acts 4:12 NIV
Also read Matthew 24 if you want to know the signs of His coming and the end. We are definitely near🙏🏽
Which direction is south? Or did i miss that
Thanks, James! Would love to see the progression of your new food forest! It looks amazing
i would have gone with cups instead of terraces just for the sake of harvesting more water.
Keep updating the homestead please… your project makes me yelous.. greets from the netherlands
