I took over this maranta from someone on Facebook. It has grown like crazy since it’s been in my care, (see pics for comparison).

What am I doing right? It has these little white dots in the soil, what are they and are they helping?

I can’t remember for sure but I may have sprinkled some mycorrhizal fungi when I repotted it. Is that it?

Wow this looks gorgeous. It’s so happy! What kind of environment does it have temp and humidity wise? Indirect light?

Probably right amount of bright indirect light, regular watering / not letting it dry out too much, and maybe a little benign neglect. I got a really bad looking variegated maranta for cheap and it’s come back really nicely with about these conditions.

You should be telling us what are you doing hahaha where is it: how much sun does it get? NESW sunlight? How often do you water it? Is it in a room that people go in often or left alone? Give us your tricks !!!

The same question we ask ourselves, what have you done well? Please tell us everything!!

  6. I think the answer is, you’ve tried. Way more than the previous owner. And it worked!

You never let the drama queen’s soil dry out until it’s bone dry and you kept her supplied with bright indirect light. 🪴♥️🌺✨

  8. I am cursed with maranthas so good on you OP. Weird that I can manage with many fussy plants but never this one.

Thank you all! Maybe it is just indirect light, a little benign neglect and a bit of luck, as you say haha!

The plant lives above my bed, about 1.5m from an east facing window in Scotland. I water it maybe once a week to once every other week depending on how warm/cold it has been. Most often I bottom water it, but sometimes I’m too lazy. I’ve given it some seaweed based fertilizer in the past too! Before pic is from June 2024 btw, so I’ve had it for over a year now.
