We bought our first house in fall 2023, and started converting our lawn in spring 2024. We used cardboard and sheet mulching.

A small section of the yard was already mulched and gardened by the previous owner (lilac, peonies, lavender, hostas, hydrangeas etc), so we just moved some things around there and added more.

In spring 2024, we started adding (mostly native) plants, and added some more in fall 2024. This spring we added gravel pathways and lots more plants.

It’s been exciting to start seeing things explode a bit in their second year ( silky dogwood, bee balm, butterfly weed, stonecrop, columbine, little bluestem etc). Next year we plan to add more ground cover and native wildflowers!

Your little home and Nolawn is so cute!

It’s beautiful, but why such a wide path? I think I’d make a more narrow path and use that extra space for planting. Urban homes have such a small grounds footprint as it is.
