This is the first terrarium I’ve made in many, many years. My first ones were in the 1970s. Since then maybe one or two. This photo is the one I made yesterday after reading your posts for the past week. Thank you all for the information. I knew nothing about layering before. Back in those days, we just threw in soil and plants.
This morning I found a small tree frog on top of the terrarium. Will it live in there? Or should I take it outdoors?
All of my plants (except the two in the middle), moss and soil are from my yard. Any suggestions for me are welcome.
Last question, if I want to add springtails or isopods, when do I do that? My yard has some.

Don’t add a tree frog in there lol, unless you do research and know the care requirements for it. Pretty sure that’s too small for one to comfortably and happily live.
Add springtails and isopods anytime! They will eat any mold that grows.
Me personally I’d recommend adding springtails sooner rather than later! They’re better at preventing mold outbreaks than cleaning them up after they’ve gotten massive from what I’ve heard. I’ve heard you can find them pretty easily outside after it rains or buy them at some pet stores. I personally ordered mine online.
Take the frog out, it’s not an appropriate setup for pets like frogs/lizards. Springtails will be good, you can add them now.
