Is it a public park? You may be able to convince the office to not, ChatGPT can create a long/convincing email very quickly lol

  2. Tumorhead

Complain to the park! threaten suing for damages

  3. nflReplacementRef

This sucks and I hope your plants are safe! Your prairie look incredible and I’d love to see more pics!!

Edit: also, our neighbors lawn guy oversprays every year, very frustrating. One recommendation would be to overseed along the edge with native grasses, since they are probably spraying a broadleaf herbicide.

  4. FateEx1994

Maybe set up a solid fence to minimize spray drift in the future? Fill in the space between the boards!!!

  5. trogdor___burninator

HOA’s need dismantled. They are a blight on communities and nature

  6. Greenskeeper37

Totally understand the frustration and I’m not a fan of pesticide use but the white dots are marking foam and do not contain and chemicals

  7. reddituser92737

In that case you could set up ugly signs about how their spraying kills bees/etc on the outside of your fence (assuming you’re not in the HOA), but that may be unhinged 🤷‍♀️

Spraying for weeds when there’s not a weed in sight.

  9. Totalidiotfuq

lmao weeds in grass that’s the stupidest shit i ever hear

Get his information and sue if any of your plants die. It’s also a federal fine.

    DOCUMENT EVERYTHING

if you can miraculously get your hands on a paper copy of today’s newspaper, take pictures of as many of your plants as you can *today*, with the newspaper and date visible. that way you have proof that they were fine before the spray when you inevitably discover damage from drift.

then become the biggest possible thorn in their side for all time

  12. Icy-Ad-7767

Those white clumps are foam markers so he does not miss any strips or over spray the same spot.

  13. greeneggsaandkam

This simply means you also need to choose violence ! Hope that helps 🙂

  14. AlexandertheeApe

How do you know he’s spraying for weeds? Could be insecticide / fungicide / PGRs / fertilizer

Sad how the decisions of just 1-a few people on a board can cause so much destruction and death. It’s like our public areas are held hostage by the most misinformed, golf-course obsessed people.

A local conservation area was planted with native Buffalograss (beautiful lawn grass that thrives at 5-7 inches) 20 years ago but the new manager is from California and has it scalped weekly.

We need some academics should develop roundup ready flavors of all the “weeds”.

A round-up ready plant has some disadvantages when compeditors were not poisoned, but it’d rock if spraying roundup helped some variants of milkweed etc.

    That said..

[“2,4-D [is] the standard weed and feed product used on lawns [and] is about 10 times more toxic than Roundup”](https://www.whygoodnature.com/blog/the-worst-chemical-on-your-lawn-isnt-roundup)

[“2,4-D is known from its use as a compound in in Agent Orange in the Vietnam War, the most visible detrimental effects on human health at that time were caused by contaminations with dioxin, which can occur as a highly toxic byproduct.”](https://www.pan-europe.info/press-releases/2014/01/stop-risky-herbicide-24-d)

In other words, they probably sprayed 2,4-D not just Roundup. 2,4-D damages DNA, is carcinogen, harms reproduction ala birth deformations, and disrupts the immune system. Roundup was invented to have a less toxic alternative to 2,4-D.

Take before photos along your property line so if there is drift damage you can get compensated. Financial repercussions will make them think twice of doing it again. Get the price of equivalent plants at a local garden center and a count of how many of each plant was damaged to get to your total.

Edit: also most state DNR departments will take overspray herbicide damage reports and investigate.

  18. SeaniMonsta

Would watering down your garden afterwards help, make things worse, or nothing?

  19. General_Bumblebee_75

What sort of park? Will there be children playing there? I would def take pictures of any damage and bring it to the attention of the responsible party should visible damage occue. Plenty of invisible damage will, no doubt.

  20. wowthatsuckshuh

If they do end up causing damage to your plants please reach out to the city (or park owner) to get their application information (what type they used and the procedure they followed, they should be documenting this).

A lot of folks don’t know this, but the instructions on herbicides and pesticides are actually legal binding. So, misusing them is illegal and they can be fined if properly reported.

  21. crazycatdermy

Ugh that’s horrible. Isn’t that stuff terrible for your health?? Would love to see more pictures of your wildflowers!

Went for a walk this morning and there was somebody spraying a public area.
We turned around to avoid the overspray. No telling what it was.
