A CBBC legend has made an admission about where they think their career will go next, sharing an insight into the audience that they hope for. Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow stars, Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood, appeared on a Celebrity special episode of BBC’s Antiques Road Trip.
But as they went head to head, joined by antiques experts Irita Marriott and David Harper, the dynamic duo made an admission about their career and audiences. The double act was tasked with trying to find the highest value antiques in Hampshire with a budget of four hundred pounds each, and as Dominic drove along with his expert, he shared what might be next for them. After finding fame on the CBBC show, which ran for three seasons, the friends then went on to DJing in clubs and festivals, still catering for the same audience but older.
David explained to the show guest that his 27-year-old daughter’s face “lit up” as he explained that he was doing an Antiques Road Show with Dick and Dom. The children’s entertainer replied: “It’s just funny that you say your daughter, who is 27 now.
“Richard and myself have been best friends for 27 years and now we are still performing to the kids that grew up watching us, but we are DJing to them in clubs and festivals around the country.”
He then looked a little emotional, adding: “It’s just really lovely, that it’s the same people who grew up watching it are now the ones in the clubs.” The antiques expert then asked if the stars are still in “Dick and Dom mode” when performing as DJs.
Dom replied: “There’s an element of performance to it, but we don’t throw custard pies around or anything like that. But, you know, there is still an element of expectation from people in the crowd and what they want to see. We know how to get the crowd going and how to whip them up into a frenzy. So it’s great.”
He then shared what might come next for them, jokingly hinting at joining the lineup of Gardeners’ World. “We were talking about this the other day, saying like ‘well what next’,” he shared.
“Do we grow with the audience again, soon, and then we could be presenting Gardeners’ World and they will be watching it?” David added: “Yeah, and antiques shows!”
