When is it ideal to repot a D. elephantipes? While growing, or while dormant? Mine is currently growing (although from what I’ve read, it should be going dormant since it is summer). I think its pot is too small, but I also think I can wait if it’s better to do it when it’s dormant.

  1. I’ve heads mixed things. Al from botanic wonders told me the best time is right before they wake up. I think during dormancy once all the roots are dead should be fine as well.

If I have one that I intend to repot, I do it as soon as they break dormancy. The vines can be fragile in their first 3-4 years and repotting them while vined out can cause a lot of stress and make them stop growing new leaves, or sometimes they’ll just give up and go back to sleep if the vine is disturbed.

IMO the main reason for not repotting when they’re in growth is because it’s hard to do without damaging the vine. I reckon you could do yours easily enough though, but just do a “slide job” rather than crumbling up the root ball to minimise the disturbance.
