Take a string trimmer and trim it down real short. Then put down a layer of soil, rake level. Thrown down grass seed, very lightly rake. If you have it sprinkle a very thin layer of peat moss over the grass seed. Keep it moist and it will sprout in a week, be ready to mow in 3 weeks

Mistakes happen. I know it’s frustrating, but she was trying to help. Have to give her credit for that.
Get a few pieces of sod. Cut the spots out in a square. Put some starter fert under, water soil, lay the sod, soak. Water 2x daily.
Not sure if you know what species of lawn you have.

I did this too! Easy fix is to scratch up all that burnt sections and really water them for several days to flush out the weed/grass chemicals. Then add a little top soil with your hand (one bag should do this whole area) and mix in some grass seed. Water it gently and ot should grow and fill in for you quickly.
