    I live in New Jersey and I was never able to be successful growing cucumbers they never really produced very well. Well this season I am growing diva F1 cucumbers and they are amazingly perfect. Every single plant is doing very well. This variety is really working out here in New Jersey

    Just a tip for Southern gardeners, try growing C. melo varieties. They are actually a kind of melon, although they taste and are grown just like C. sativus. They love the heat and squash vine borers are rarely a problem. Also, if you miss one when harvesting, it doesn't kill the plant. If it's too big, just treat it like a cantaloupe and discard the rind and seeds. It still tastes fantastic. Jay Cucumber Shop is the best source I found, but it's pretty easy to get Armenian cucumber varieties from the major seed companies too.

    Last summer I grew three cucumber plants in my row of trellised lima beans. The scent of the limas must have disguised the cucumbers. NO CUCUMBER BEETLES.

    Thanks James! I've planted squash in the corner of my vego beds as you suggested… will they be ok trailing down onto gravel? I'm wondering if it could be too hot, though they will make their own shade.

    Please STOP bringing UP Tucker! As someone who lost her 17+ furry companion IT DOSE NOT HELP to keep reminding me/us that they are GONE!
    I think you are good people, but STOP!
    I wish I could say that to all those who knew about my fur baby, and keep making me relive his death!
    We who have loved animal companions know that out living them is the price we pay for having them in our lives, and we do it again and again because they are worth the Pain!
    But STOP talking about it.

    Thanks for this. Perfect timing. I tucked a few cucumbers in the row with my tomatoes to make it easier to keep everything watered. Wondering though… Do I have to change growing locations for cucumbers every year to avoid diseases and pests?
