I recently started working on some bark for a terrarium. Soaked it in water for an hour then put some weight on it to flatten it out.

My terrariums are exclusively made out of materials I find outside. This should be great for terrariums.

Absolutely!! I waterboard mine along with my moss before using them though. Just soak it in a bucket with some rocks on top over night and boom all the bugs are deceased or swimming for their lives and your wood is most likely pest free 🙂

I have read on a different sub dedicated to aquariums that the best is to boil things we find for about 20 minutes. So that the quality of water cannot be altered. But I don’t know if this applies here…

When I tried the bark rotted for a while then with many operations it stopped

Anything can be in a terrarium. Even you, that’s called a biodome.

Yes You can. All of my terrarium plants and decor have all been collected outside. The only things I didn’t collect outside is the soil leca and orchid bark I use

I never to drown or do anything to the moss I collect outside. I think the moss with hitchhikers in it like little snails or maybe a random bug here or there isn’t going to affect anything. If anything I think long term they’re beneficial. Obviously I’m also not going to collect moss and at the very least just shake it off and make sure everything surface wise is cool but a random ant or something isn’t going to kill anyone.

Looks like it has some termite damage, you might want to boil it first to make sure you aren’t letting those in your house

Just make sure that you have springtails because in my experience outdoor collected wood always has a lot of mold spores on it

Bake it in an oven to kill parasites. It should be good post that.
