In the heart of Evergreen, Colorado, I embarked on an extraordinary outdoor adventure, dumping a truckload of mulch in the woods to create an edible landscape. This bold experiment was not only a learning experience for me but also an opportunity to promote community engagement and environmental stewardship. By adopting permaculture principles and recycling organic matter, we aimed to foster a thriving ecosystem. As I worked on the mulch bed, I learned about the wonders of mushroom cultivation, including the majestic wine cap mushroom and oyster mushrooms. This outdoor cultivation project also highlighted the importance of fire mitigation and forest stewardship in the Colorado mountains. Join me on this journey as I explore the intersection of gardening, foraging, and nature stewardship, and learn valuable lessons about creating a firewise and sustainable environment. This video is a testament to the power of outdoor education and the rewards of nurturing a harmonious relationship with nature.
So happy to lend a hand to Lucky Ranch Foraging, picking up and prepping this mulch for a mushroom cultivation class! There’s still room in the Outdoor Cultivation Class! You will learn how to install a Wine Cap bed and an Oyster Block Garden and make your own mushroom logs! You’ll take home everything you need to grow your oyster mushrooms outdoors or on your kitchen counter!
All mulch was taken from local fire mitigation. It’s a dream to turn trash into food for a third year, while holding more moisture in the ground, and creating more defensible space around your home! Class is on 5/31 check out @luckyranch_foraging on Instagram.
