Any reason why this wouldn’t be an average centipede?

millipedes! i had these in one of my plants once and did a ton of research. they’re not bad for the plant, but if it freaks you out you can repot or use diatomaceous earth to keep them in check.

They are probably small millipedes, which aren’t generally harmful. They decompose dead plant material, but if there are too many in a small confined space, they might nibble off soft roots and seedlings.
Could also be centipedes, which hunt other insects. They are rather beneficial!
If you want to remove them, clean out your water reservoir and let it dry out for a couple days… Also check your plant for root rot. If you find more millipedes, repot your plant and replace the soil completely!
TLDR: Those insects themselves aren’t bad for your plant, they could be an indicator for something else going on though

They look like a type of millipede! I’m thinking not centipedes, since there don’t seem to be back sensory legs, and the antenna are shorter.

Crosspost to r/entomology they should be able to help more!
Where can I buy this so called ‘self watering plant water’? Seems like a great invention!
(I know that’s not what it’s about but I totally misunderstood the title at first 😅)

One set of legs per segment or 2? 2 is millipede and 1 is centipede. Are they in the water itself or just in a moist area?

I had a bunch of these in some plants I bought at a local nursery. I just repotted the plants and released the millipedes outside lol

Funny. I just repotted a blushing philodendron and while shaking out all of the soil I found in the very center a baby desert centipede. Almost crawled into my hand. Had zero thoughts about that crawling out of a plant I’ve had for over a year in my house with next to no pest activity.

Looks like some kind of centipede to me based off the head shape, body segments, and legs. There aren’t enough segments and legs for me to be swayed toward millipede. Still beneficial for your plant since they hunt down other insects, however, be mindful of them as they can be dangerous to humans and pets depending on the species

Plants are living things. It’s good. They won’t hurt you.

Bought a yucca from home depot once and set it in a prime spot ready to enjoy it for decades to come.
The next morning when I watered it about 100 millipedes raced out of the pot so I yarded it.
These days I no longer buy buy big box plants and if the pests are beyond typical plant pests I’m out.
