My 1.5 years old seed grown Jatropha podagrica is flowering, it was a huge surprise for me!

Very interesting alien like plant.

Is it self fertile? I'm going to wait male flowers and try to pollinate them…

I don’t know the seed viability of self pollination, but mine has pollinated itself and successfully developed a fruit.

The are monoecious however the yellow and red varieties do not cross pollinate. Isn’t that interesting?! Beautiful plants. Congrats on flowering.

  3. I’ve self-ed these before and the seeds are viable, it can be difficult because the female flowers open first, (ones open in ur pic) and the males open after, in my experience typically the female flowers fall off before the male ones open, but if you are vigilant you can self them as soon as the males open. good luck!
