This is 1 of 2 pups that came off what I believe to be a limifloria.

The other pup rooted very quickly, and other than being a little etiolated due to being shaded by the mother plant, is fully green and thriving. This one is also etiolated (again, because it was shaded by the mother plant) but has begun to go brown/red near the base of the leaves and the poor thing is in desperate need of watering.

I've waited approx. 2 months for any sign of root growth, and I think I finally have root buds? Is it ready to be watered, or shall I wait a bit more for the roots to develop further? I don't want to risk it developing rot.

Thank you.

Yeah, just make sure it doesn’t stay wet too long. Pups want to be watered more often and dry out more quickly than adults.

I have way more experience with cacti than haws but if it were me I’d be giving that a little water but only enough to tell it “hey, grow some roots and you can have a drink”. I don’t think at that stage the roots are functional yet but maybe they are.

  3. I would wait a little longer until the roots are more developed.

When rooting cuttings or pups, I use bird sand as a substrate. Every 2-3 days, I draw a circle around the pup with a small jet of water from a spray bottle. This method has worked very well with haworthia pups so far.

I like to give them a reason to root. My best luck with pups and leaf props has been to plant them in pure pumice and water frequently (at least once a week).

I would pot it up and water it. I find that water helps promote root growth. If it’s really dried out, you could soak it in a bowl of water for 30 min-1 hr to help it plump up again before you pot it.
