Four budget-friendly Dollar Store hacks to protect cabbage and brassica plants from cabbage worms.

Cabbage worms will eat the leaves and destroy your plants. There are several types of cabbage worms that come from different moths/butterflies. I posted a previous video on this if you’d like more details.

here are four things from the dollar store that you can utilize to cover these plants and keep them safe from the butterflies and the moths that lay their eggs on these These are every gardener’s favorite These work for so many different things And they do come in other sizes Sometimes I even put these little mesh coverings on them I think these were from Lle Supposed to be produce bags but they came too for like a dollar or something like that They weren’t very expensive Hula hoops They’re only out this time of year They come apart really easily and they make great hoop structures You just need to get some netting to cover it Item number three pop-up pampers with a couple of those little stakes This will sit flush It’s perfect option Sometimes they have these and they don’t have those popup things but these work pretty good You can either put it over your plant and cinch it shut which I’ve done before or if you are someone that has a bunch of tomato cages like I do and use it as a structure

  1. I have a huge property. My issues is not so much the bugs but the opossums ground squirrels skunks raccoons and every other creature eating it all up and digging

  2. the hula hoop never thought about that one .. been using the mesh laundry bags also the mesh frying pan covers over 5 gallon buckets to collect rain water but stop the mosquitos from laying eggs in the water

  3. Great video! Love the pop-up hampers. Good solid ideas. Two years in a row I tried growing potatoes in grow bags. The plants got off to a good start until the caterpillars ate them all. Anyway, thanks for sharing. ❤❤

  4. I have some in ground plants an a few raised beds i wish i could add a photo so ppl could see what im talking about anyway but we planted a few different squash an a sugar babies watermelon 🍉 blueberries raspberries green beans potatoes several varieties of tomatoes an bell peppers an different hot peppers strawberries cucumber also but in the corner of my yard only place i was able to plant a garden in the very corner where the fence meets is a huge mulberry tree an the birds squirrels opossums love them but all that to say this its been like 2 mo months give or take a week or so i planted all an when u have a garden especially potted food plants an in ground an raised beds so in the ladt week i added more soil with all the nutrients included in that so i added it an watered the fresh soil an within i wanna say 4 hrs there was this foamy sludge creamy peach colored stuff surrounding just 1 pepper plant an i had to look it up apparently its some type of something from the soil it moves an spreads an its common i guess so i scooped it up n threw it away but b 4 i found out what that was i was freaked out its the most bizarre thing ive ever seen in a garden so if n e 1 has that issue u just scoop it up but these ideas she has are very clever

  6. These are amazing tricks! I have my collards covered with an insect netting and while I’ve was able to keep the flying insects out (sorta) the pill bugs and slugs still had a feast.

  7. OK I had to throw a sub your way because of the hula hoop idea. Period. I think you can even get those things from the dollar store now. Good idea cheaper than the PVC that I have to buy at the hardware store.

  8. I want my butterflies. They can nibble if they want. Its our world not just mine.Grubs and peskies are different tho.❤

  9. Not bad advice not great either. These products will not & do not last in UV rays as design inside use. Proper supplies last longer & are cheaper from greenhouse mega store. The gardening community needs to stop wasting money on junk that will not last & adds to landfills. Give good advice like BT sprays. Seriously it cheaper 🙄

  10. Get an old lampshade -rip off the old shade and attach netting to it and use to cover. You can find a lot when ppl throw them out on the curb on trash day
Also makes an excellent food or plate cover for outdoor eating to keep the flies off

  11. Thank you for this information I started a garden just this spring. I suffer from depression and anxiety they say when you’re out in the garden when you put your hands in the soil it releases dorfans .

  12. Plant a bunch of oregano nearby and then trim it down when fully grown.
It usually the best bug repellent!!

  13. for cabbages and other bracia , just plant them with your potatoes and have horse radish planted on the outside of your garden. no need to for all that extra work of trying to protect them the potatoes naturally repels cabbage moth and flee beetles . and if you are extra worried just buy BTK it a bacteria that kills caterpillars and you spray it on the cabbages

  14. OK for pidlers. Your garden would be a small corner in my garden?. Not hating, glad you are out there doing it! Most country people in my area would agree. I would go broke. Amazes me how people spend money unnecessarily, and they always say " it is so expensive, I can buy it cheaper than growing it?! 🤔

  15. Always plant some extra unprotected sacrificial plants for the pollinators to take advantage of!
After all, without them, we’re kaput!
    Always Bee pollinator friendly!

  16. Question please! Once the cabbage already has the hold damage, is it too late save it? Should I go ahead and pull it up?
