This is why for my most recent build, it is partially shaded by the leaves of trees high up for much of the day. Still sees the sky, but direct UV was cooking them more than it was helping them. In early spring/late fall when it’s cooler out, it’s back to full sun since the leaves are gone, and temperatures remain a bit more on the tolerable side!

I have this same dilemma. I want a greenhouse but have no idea where to put it. I would think full sun to help extend the growing season since for the summer, all the plants will be outside anyways.

Get some bentonite clay (sold as Surround) and spray the whole greenhouse. It works really well you just have to re apply it after heavy rains.

Does it still vent out the top?

Same issue with my new greenhouse. Way too hot even with the thermostatically controlled evacuation fan on, passive vents open and the door open. I don’t even live in a particularly hot area of the world.

In grow zone 5b, I use my greenhouse April -May for seedling starts, early plant purchases, and repotting. By June 1st the interior can reach over 95F so I work to empty it by planting everything outside by mid June. Then mid September- November I extend my season with container vegs and cold crops.

I am curious as to why the shade cloth is black. Black attracts heat.

I have to install shade cloths on both polycarbonate greenhouse and an old hoop house. If the temperature rises over 80, shade cloth goes up. (Fastened by clamps and clear gorilla tape.) Otherwise greens turn bitter and tomato plants get stressed.
