We just moved into a new home, there was landscaping done at some point but hasn’t been maintained in 5 to 10 years. As I’m going through weeding and removing some plants and curious what some of these are? Can you please help me identify them? Are any weeds? TIA!!

You’ll likely get more responses in r/plantidentification
Please post your region for more accurate results.

#3 looks like Autumn Olive, Eleagnus umbelata. I can’t really tell the other ones. The first looks like something in the mint family tho.

The first one looks like spirea to me, and the last one almost looks like a panicle hydrangea. Hyacinth is a flower

I would honestly download a plant identification app to help with figuring out what’s growing on your property.

  5. #3 looks like alder buckthorn, which is invasive in my region (Massachusetts, US).

Strongly recommend the iNaturalist Seek app for identifying the plants on your property: [https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app](https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/seek_app)

Aggressive non-native (i.e. destructive) plants tend to flourish on unmanaged land bc they have a competitive advantage, but sometimes you’ll have hidden treasure!

Good luck and happy sleuthing. 🙂

    1. Spirea japonica 2. Frangula alnus 3. Frangula alnus 4. Hydrangea paniculata

For future reference: PictureThis is a great app for plant ID. It will give you an add at the beginning but you can close out of it and continue to use it for free.
