I did a dumb thing with my cuttings and now I’m stuck
Does it look cool? Sure. But what do I do now?! These were all small 2ish leaf cuttings that I honestly didn’t expect to root so well. Should I smash the glass so they can be properly potted? What would you do?
Can you flood it and carefully tug the plants free?

Can’t you just hold it upside down and tap some of the soil out? And then put the bottle in a sink full of water and see if you can “flush out” more of the soil, while gently trying to jerk the cuttings out 1 by 1?
Mayflame15
You could probably leave them in there long term if you wanted, pothos can be a solid mass of roots in some glass as long as your fertilize them occasionally. Once they’ve gotten big you can take more cuttings of them too

The plant will More than likely survive for a while like that, but the easy way to free is is to wrap the glass in a towel and gently break it.
I’ve got a few jar plants, and this is what I do for anything with a narrow mouth.
Mood-Cautious
Keep them as long as you can! It’ll be fine. Yoink the plants out, roots will break but whatever is left will be salvageable, you don’t have to break the glass.
sadhermitcrab
Plants are hardy, they are stronger than you think! I’d grab a stick and poke in the soil so it gets lose and then you can carefully remove them one by one 😊
ConsciousDentist6557
Do you have the original mother plant or were these cuttings you bought to grow your own plant?
If you have the mothers, I would absolutely leave them to see what happens because you’re right, those do look really cool, and unexpected success from experiments is always a cool feeling.
If you don’t have mother plants and you were trying to make your own plant, perhaps you can use a chopstick or some other thin long object to move your substrate/soil around and dump some to weasle the roots out and repot into a differne vessel.
Immer_Susse
I would leave it in there forever
BiteRare203
Use a chopstick to break up the soil and manipulate the roots until you can pull them out the top.

Not dumb at all 🪴 I’m going to do the same but with a wine glass. Thank you OP

I would let them take over the full jar. Pothos are very tolerant of being root bound, so they can live like that for quite a while. maybe break the jar in a few years if it becomes a problem. I think it looks cute in there!
ExtensionAd2105
You could keep them that way until the roots get strangled, THEN smash the glass and pot them.
This_Buds_For_You
Flush it with water, pour it out, and repeat until enough soil is washed out, but honestly they can be happy for a while in there.
pineapplegirl10
I would keep it like this!! You can always take just new cuttings or break the jars once they become too root bound and you want to repot them. But they are so cute as is.
Flaky_Chance6815
For now I love how they look.
plantbbgraves
It’s not your fault they make those bottles like that! They romanticize propping in them, they don’t mention the struggle of getting them out!
dazzleduck
Honestly it’ll probably be fine in there for a while as long as it isn’t staying wet too long. Just don’t water it unless the plant is droopy and it should be fine!
lboone159
I think they look so unique I would leave them like that and just take cuttings if they don’t do well. I personally thing they will be fine in that glass for a really long time!

It’s cute tho 😍

I would carefully shake and dig it all out, smashing the glass as a last resort.
nang3la
Don’t smash the glass! The roots are bendy. These will come out easily if you hold it upside down and gently use a chopstick to knock out the dirt/moss/leca.
RudeWay1043
Keep it. No mistakes made when it grows.
clearly_quite_absurd
Let them grow for longer and if they stay healthy then you don’t need to repot. As others have said pothos like being root bound.
Expert_Pressure_6092
What’s that thing? $4. Have fun smashing it.
Sjasmin888
I’d probably leave them in there if it were me, I think visible roots are neat, but you could just use the hose pipe to erode the soil out and be able to remove them that way if you wanted them potted another way. Make your decision relatively soon and the glass can survive. Wait too long and smashing the glass or mangling the root ball will be your only recourse for removing them.
theneanman
If you shake it enough the soil should just fall out of the top.
AtomsFromTheStars
I buy all of my baby plants jars from the Dollar Tree. You can find cute ones and it won’t hurt your feelings too badly if you have to break it to get the plant out.
Feistyhippo1
If desperate could always break the container
tessie33
Maybe use one of those long ice cream teaspoons to scoop out one at a time? The Smashing seems unnecessary.

Am I one of the few who immediately just thought ‘Smash the pot’ lol

I believe these can go quite a while in those pots still.

OoOooOoo… Leave me with a hose, a chopstick, and a 5 gallon bucket and I’ll have you sorted. I have to unfurl my monstera from the moss pole from time to time and this ain’t so bad.
Flush it out with water. A lot of water. Outside, use the hose on a gentle setting and use the chopstick to loosen bits. When it’s fairly loosened, submerge in water and jiggle around with the chopstick until it pops loose 🤙🏽🥰
