I just bought a fiddle leaf and it is in a 9 inch diameter pot. I have a 12 inch and 13.5 inch pot. Should I repot to get more soil in there or keep it in the nursery plastic for now?

Personally, I’d leave it for a bit unless roots are needing more room. Have you tried checking the bottom of the nursery pot? Sticking your finger into the dirt? If you’re hitting roots or if the roots are growing out of the dirt, a repot would be good.

Look at that nice sturdy trunk. I wouldn’t repot immediately. I like to wait about a month before I report a fiddle unless it’s in dire need, so that it can acclimate to its new environment. A new environment plus repotting can be a shock to your tree. Take a look at the roots. When the soil dries out pull it out of the nursery pot and see what the roots look like. If it’s looking root bound or like it’s cramped for space I’d repot, but I’d only repot in a 11-12 inch pot. The pot on the right is really pretty.

Rule of thumb is to go up 1-2” max at a time
