My backyard is a MESS and I could use some help making it pretty and functional. We would like to remove a good deal of the sand and put down concrete so we can have a patio set and BBQ grill. We have 2 dogs so we have to have grassy areas but our grass just doesn't grow. We're in Florida. Also, the mildew is gone, we pressure washed last weekend so please don't come for me on that. Thanks!

Have you tried clover instead of grass? Most lawn grass, even “Kentucky” bluegrass, isn’t native to the US. I’d try a blend of microclover and white clover.

As for the rest of the yard…am I the only one that gets excited by a blank canvas like this? The options are endless!

Looks like your porch area might be facing north, if so you will always have a hard time growing grass there. If you can ,make a larger porch with a walk way to some destination. Then look for shade loving plants. Also live in Fl with a north facing backyard

  3. I personally do not understand why people want to pave their yards. If it was me I would put down a bunch of mulch, maybe a walkway or some pavers, and plant some native plants that won’t require any maintenance. If you put down the mulch thick enough weeds won’t be an issue for now. Then you’d have a nice place for the dogs to run around. Maybe get some visitors 🦎 .
