I been seeing these hanging logs all over pinterest it’s soooo pretty but I got a few questions if anyone’s ever done this.
1. Do I use a real peice of wood? If so what kind?
2.Can it be from outside? Where can i buy one if it’s not recommended to get one from outside??
And I was thinking maybe making one out of foam and a rod and painting it but I feel like that would be just too much, but it would be lighter.
3. What do i use to hang it? And i’m talking about holding abt 30-40 lbs??
Any recommendations i’ll take im just a girl and not really the best at craft and don’t even know where to start with this one.

You can get anchors for the weight distribution for hanging! I got some for my daughters swing a kid for our porch. You can maybe google them and search for them on your Walmart app for the aisle. I bet a good solid piece of wood you clean up would be great and beneficial without breaking a budget. 😊 Good luck. I wanna do the same but when I find a better home with high ceilings!
How do you keep those little soil gnats away?
#1 suggestion for this: When you screw the anchors into the cieling, MAKE SURE IT’S IN A JOIST!! Dry wall cielings will not hold more than a few pounds, just like you want to munt your TV on the wall in a wall stud, if your screw/anchor is not into one of the joists (cieling studs) it will fall right out.
If you live somewhre coastal or by a river you might be able to find a cool piece of driftwood for free. For treating the found wood, iI would 100% put it in some kind of alcohol bleach or borax bath for a few days to penetrate and sanitze the wood, and then let it dry in the sun for a few days before spraying it with a clear polyurathane coating to keep anything that might come out inside, and sealing it. Epoxy resin might work well too if you are lazy on the sanitation side, should suffocate and be hard enough for bugs not to chew through it. It is also much more messy.
With a cordless drill, a ladder, and some 3″ screws (or 3″ anchor hooks) and a stud finder (or someone you know vaguely familar with carpentry) should be able to screw into the cieling no problem! Just keep in mind watering the plants with a setup like this can be more difficult than if they’re on a shelf lol. I find some of the coolest setups are the highest maintence.
Every time I see posts like this I can’t help but think of how impractical it is. I mean, I keep plants near my bed but watering plants above my bed and random guttation scares me more than pests ever could.
not able to give any advice but just to say i love this idea 😍 i want to put something like this in front of big windows for all the hanging plants i have.
I used butterfly hooks for the ceiling drywall (the weight max is around 50 pounds i think) and i also screwed curtain hangers into the wall studs. So the plant pole is sort of double mounted. The hard part for me is connecting the wall hooks to the pole itself (in your case, the wood) I use zip ties to connect the hooks to the pole. Depending on what type of wood you use, you might have to use chains from the ceiling mounts. Make sure you check the weight rating of your tools & give kt a nice tug before you add the plants. You might also need grow lights on the ceiling so keep placing in mind 🙂
There are definitely light weight props for this online. And i think others have already shared ideas on the wood itself.
I put cache pots under my hanging plants that are above my bed & then i use a wet vacuum to empty the water. You could remove each plant each time but you’d still have to wait for them to drain & so a cache pot worked better for me.
*the pic looks really grainy here & idk why, sowwies!

There’s no way my cats would lay on that bed without trying to eat all of those plants… but it sure is pretty!
I wish I could be more like this. My dogs would kill themselves munching the plants
If it were me, I would try to attempt pic 3 and bake the wood or buy cork logs
This is what we do for bark in reptile enclosures
Then you can hang any planter from said wood
I’ve had a piece like this hanging in front of my living room window for the last 6 years – I brought it home from a local park. I hang 3 plants off of it and some other cute hanging decorations. It’s one of my favorite things in my house, I think I will always have a version of it up where ever I live.

Omg my dream home
Ok how do you have kitties and these plants? I want one but I’m scared of the toxicity
You are not JUST a girl. You are a girl don’t demean yourself. There’s plenty of people out there that will do it for you.
A nice nap with the kitties!
Can I just add please do not go pay someone $80 for a stick they collected and then marketed? Go find one in nature and clean it.
I mean dam, can I come over that looks so peaceful
Can i move in? 😂 All jokes aside, I love your plant setup!! I’d consider this a plant goal of mine 😍🪴
The ceiling, right away!
I used a tree branch in my office! I used the end pieces that hold curtain rods to hold the branch and then hang my plants from that!

(Old photo, lost the middle plant)
Love!!!
I use branches from forests in my chameleon’s enclosure. I stick them in the oven for 2 hours at 200 degrees to kill all parasites and diseases. I think you can use bleach in a tub to clean them as well, but I dont know a lot about it.
As far as how to hang stuff, I’m pretty handy and I’d still HIGHLY recommend AGAINST hanging anything above where you will occupy a lot of time (bed, bath, desk) or over any animals, or valuables.
If you were to go about this, there are anchors you can purchase for ceilings, although the ceiling may not be able to support a lot of weight. For weight, you’d have to look at the studs (not sure of the name) in the ceiling, theyre the wood posts that keep the structure of the building.
one other Thing to consider is the light situation. i used to have a Lot of plants Trailing along the ceiling (pothos) but they lost more and more leaves at all places Further away from the light. so either you need a room with a Lot of light and equal amounts of light along the Stick to prevent that from Happening, or it won’t Look good for Long.
i’d use a regular stick. it’s easy, free, If you’re worried about insects wash it Off before use.
make sure the screws and Ankers are safely secured.
also consider watering. i have several hanging pots and watering is annoying. if you only have a saucer under the Pot you can check how much Water came Out the Pot, BUT If you Water a Bit too much it will Run over and make a mess. if you use a full size over-Pot, depending on the hight you hang/place the pots it makes it hard to check the Water Level. so a high saucer might be the best medium solution i’d Go for.
with patience
This what my bedroom in heaven is gonna look like
