Firefighters from Maldon headed to Maylandsea on Saturday evening after reports of a garden fire.

The fire originated from the back garden of a property on Imperial Avenue, and rapidly spread across four adjoining gardens – destroying sheds, fences and garden items.

The incident occurred just before midnight on May 31, with teams from Burnham, Tillingham and Rayleigh Weir rushing to the rural village.

Firefighters attacked the fire from two angles, with one team setting up on Imperial Avenue while the other two approached from West Avenue.

A spokesperson from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service say they believe the fire was caused by embers from an earlier incident, where sunlight reflected off a pile of glass and set a fence alight.

Although the fire was thought to be out, it later reignited.

Crews worked quickly to surround and extinguish the fire, stopping it from spreading further.
