Initially started out without a pond liner but then I used one to trap water in the soil around the edges of the pond to help marginals grow.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops over the summer!

  1. For those interested in the plants used:

    – Common bugle – *Ajuga reptans*
    – Hemp agrimony – *Eupatorium cannabinum*
    – Cuckoo flower – *Cardamine pratensis*
    – Creeping jenny – *Lysimachia nummularia*
    – Purple loosestrife – *Lythrum salicaria*
    – Water mint – *Mentha aquatica*
    – Hard rush – *Juncus inflexus*
    – Water plantain – *Alisma plantago-aquatica*
    – Hornwort – *Ceratophyllum demersum*
    – Water crowfoot – *Ranunculus aquatilis*
    – Yellow Iris – *Iris pseudacorus*
    – and the purple flower is some sort of *Scabiosa*

I also added ramshorn snails, pond skaters and diving beetles to kick the ecosystem off (already had a lot of mosquito larvae in there). Any advice appreciated!

  2. You’ve just inspired me to do something similar in my back garden.
It’s a haven for loads of birds, squirrels and my hedgehogs so a little wildlife pond like this is such a great idea.
It looks great and will improve over time too.
Have a great weekend from a sunny N Wales.
