I just caught this AI-powered, self-driving commercial mower cutting grass at my local park. No human drivers needed anymore, it appears.

Gonna have to see it make lines with a broom, first.

I don’t know that there’s anything AI about this. Autonomous doesn’t mean AI.

That *has* to be a horribly expensive machine.

Seems a little dangerous to have something like that totally unmanned. I mean, 99% of the population is smart enough to stay away, but there’s still that 1% that needs warning labels on everything

I have seen smaller versions at a hospital in Rochester MN!

Someone will fuck it up. It’s parks, it will happen. My buddy worked at a small college and they got one of those roomba style mowers to mow a large berm above some woods. It made it half a night before it was chucked down into the woods and completely broken. Never used again haha

I’m gonna need some close ups of its lines before I judge. I also want to see it edge. Does a person do the weedeating?

Oh noooo not the parks and rec professionals! That was my summertime job in high school to mow all the county parks… man, I thought their jobs would surely be safe, but I guess I forgot about Lawn Roombas

what could possibly go wrong with a blade-slinging robot in a public park?

  12. Never lived in Denver. I wonder how long it is going to take before it has a tag on it.

  13. It looks like it’s confusing the shadow of the tree as an obstacle.

i’ve seen these, there’s literally a human operator standing by — so the lawn guy was replaced by a more technical lawn guy

quietly hoping it has been programmed to play ZZ top while mowing /s

non-sarcasm redditors: I am 100% aware the audio is from OPs car.

  16. So if we replace all the jobs with robots, everything should be free right?

  17. i was the fleet Ops Manager for a firm in INDY and went to the Ex Mark factory for a couple of days. This was in 2018 and they basically said this would be coming.
