  1. I have a long shoot with baby pups coming out of a spider plant I just purchased, do I leave them or is this how I propagate? This is my first spider plant so I want to handle with care

I love my spider plants. My big momma plant just became a grandmother. I’m so proud. 🥲

Pothos and calatheas for me, I can’t stop buying them

Pretty much ALL the common ones—they’re popular for a reason. I don’t have anything that would be considered rare, or even particularly unusual.

I just love cultivating the “basic” plants to look as beautiful and healthy as possible.

How’re you growing your spider plants like? Do they need extra light? Fertilize weekly?

Yours look so happy and beautiful!

Jade. Have got them spread throughout the house. All from the same progenitor, aside from one.

I love my African violets!! My mom recently taught me how to propagate them and I have had to resist doing it too much bc I am gonna end up with a shelf of just violets like an 80 year old. 😂

  14. Thank you all for the fantastic comments! Pothos, ZZ plants, spider plants, peace lilies, and snakes are all incredible choices! To address the questions about my spider plants, these two are the great, great, great grandmothers of around 150 plants. I’ve distributed about 140 of them and kept 10 for myself. Propagation is incredibly simple. I snip the babies off the vine and place them in water for about two weeks. Alternatively, you can skip that step and directly plant them in the soil. I use plain soil from my local nursery and mix in some perlite. Spider plants thrive in smaller containers; they prefer being rootbound, so don’t be tempted to use a larger pot. They grow best in bright, direct, or indirect light but can also do well in low light – just at a slower pace. I fertilize them twice a year. They are extremely drought and over-watering resistant.
