Can the average gardener make use of strawberry runners at this stage?

  1. As a hobbyist gardener, you may have better luck letting the runners root into the ground a bit before cutting and transplanting them elsewhere.

At this stage, you could probably get them to root if you place each runner on top of some kind of soil or potting mix with the leaves pointing up to the sky and lightly press it in so it’s making contact with the soil. Keep it lightly watered and mist as you feel necessary. It shouldn’t take long to root.

I’ve personally never gotten runners at this stage to root after they were detached from the plant. You could still use the little leaves for tea.

There is rooting hormone. Dampen base of stem, dip into powder, and plant. I’ve had good luck with it, but never tried it with strawberries
